Meet The Team
Kyle is a graduate student in the Architectural Engineering program at CU. His research interests include envelope design and low-embodied carbon materials. Kyle recently moved to Colorado and enjoys hiking and camping with his dog during his free time.
Wes was born in Montana and grew up in Colorado. He spent last summer living out of his car as a raft guide in Utah. He loves climbing, backpacking, skiing, and basketball.
Project Co-Lead & Engineering Lead
Paul is a graduate student in Architectural Engineering. When he's not running in the mountains, he enjoys tinkering with his 1980's Ford Bronco in the shop. Paul's research and work experience includes thermal storage solutions, residential green hydrogen energy, and waste heat recovery.
Crystal moved to Colorado after living in Mexico for most of her life. Currently, Crystal is studying her bachelor’s in architectural engineering with a minor in Management and Construction. Upon degree completion, her main goal and dream are to focus on creating sustainable systems for new and old structures that will benefit the environment and sustain a better quality of life to help combat our global warming issues. She loves outdoors activities such, hiking, biking and running.
Architecture Lead & Construction Co-Lead
Nick is an inspiring architect and straight up boss at life. While we are pretty sure he doesn't sleep, Nick is a senior in Environmental Design while also actively serving our country in the military.
Rachel grew up in Denver, Colorado and enjoys hiking, snowboarding, listening to live music, and playing with her dogs. Her degree focus is in material life-cycle assessment, envelope design, and cost analysis.
Integrated Systems & Measured Contests Lead
Heather grew up in Littleton, Colorado. She is interested in sustainability and renewable energy. In her free time, she likes to do yoga, grow houseplants, and pet dogs.
Structural Lead & Graduate Advisor
Jarod is a graduate student in Architectural Engineering originally from Iowa. After obtaining his undergraduate degree in civil engineering, Jarod moved to Colorado to focus on sustainable structural design. Jarod enjoys skiing and making the world's best green hatch chili recipe.
Kate is focusing in construction management as well as engineering management. She loves to sail and ski with friends and family
Website and Social Media
Currently, she is completing a master's degree through the ATLAS program while working as a product designer at Nutanix, a cloud computing business. She enjoys working on hybrid design projects linked to Product design (interface design), Game design, Motion capture for animation, 3D animation, VR, and AR. Also, she has 5+ years of experience as a user experience designer and researcher.
Charlotte is an Architectural Engineering majoemphasing in construction mangement and minoring in engineerign management. Grew up outside of Chicago Illinois, loves to ski, hike and play soccer.
Emily is a graduate student in Architectural Engineering with a certificate in Global Engineering at University of Colorado Boulder. Her interests are in net zero energy buildings and passive housing. As a past Bostonian, Emily is excited to strengthen her roots in Colorado and start impacting the industry next year.
Smart Home and Automation Lead
Grace is from St. Louis, MO and majoring in Computer Science and Economics with an emphasis in Quantitative Analysis. I’m the Systems Integration Co-Team Lead with Heather. My hobbies include backpacking, skiing, and fitness.
Abdullah Jassim Alkhamees also known as AJ Alkhamees, grew up in Kuwait City, Kuwait. AJ is an architectural engineering student who is passionate about building systems and more specifically electrical and lighting systems. AJ enjoys working on cars during his free time.
Jay Arehart is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering department at the University of Colorado (CU) Boulder. Jay teaches courses with a focus on architectural design, structural engineering, building science, and sustainability. Formally trained as an architectural engineer, Jay worked as a structural designer prior to completing his PhD investigating the carbon storage potential of materials and buildings. Jay’s current research focuses on using advanced life cycle assessment methods, machine learning, and principles of industrial ecology to reduce the carbon emissions of the built environment at both the building and city scales. Jay is integrally involved in the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) as a co-chair of the Sustainability Committee and Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI) as a representative of the Academic Council. Previously, Jay was a research fellow with Project Drawdown, and worked as a field engineer and project manager with Engineers in Action in Bolivia and Eswatini.
Jennifer is an instructor in the Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering Department. She teaches courses with an emphasis on illuminating engineering and sustainability fundamentals to undergraduate and graduate Architectural Engineering students including Illumination I, Luminous Radiative Transfer, Daylighting, and Adaptive Lighting Systems. She is co-advisor to the CU Boulder IES student chapter and Solar Decathlon team, and was the faculty lead for the 2021 Solar Decathlon team. Jennifer received Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Architectural Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. Her professional experience includes working with the Daylighting Analysis Group at Architectural Energy Corporation and supporting the Buildings Research Program at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
